I am predicting that by the year 2040 it will be well known that mankind is going extinct, and we will be busy with predictions as to how and approximately about how it will play out.
It is certainly not that this is what I wanted. This is so opposite from what I focused on working towards, but facts are facts and this is what is going on.
There are a number of persons and groups predicting the demise of mankind, and calculating chances of which way we will go extinct. I think most, if not all, are pointing to climate change as bringing the end. And I would not disagree. I don't think many people think we will survive until the sun goes supernova, burns out, or whatever.
And technically we could have prevented climate change or drastically slowed it down, but that is not what we want. Unless of course we do not have to change our greedy consuming lifestyles to do so, thus impossible.
Of course there are very few isolated tribes of humans who cannot be included, but almost everyone on earth is contributing to climate change as well as a plethora of other environmental destruction.
Further I expect around 2040 earthquakes will be clearly occurring more or becoming more severe or both. And I expect occurring in unexpected places. As the thin layer that is the earths crust warms up, it becomes more fluid. So areas that might slip can slip easier, the ground will "flow" more creating more areas that can lead to earthquakes. Clearly I'm just guessing here. Maybe I'll find some solid information on this area and I will post that here. But so far it seems earthquake activity is generally the same on average each year for as long as we've been recording them.
I'll post links on new stuff, and I have old links saved somewhere.
Two different predictions about the percentage of mankind that will still be alive at 2050. One was like 80%, the other 50%. Or something.
One clear prediction, but maybe a sensationalizing more than summation of the actual prediction, was about the earth becoming uninhabitable within 30 years. 30 years from when I read that would have been shortly before 2050, and the predictions were earlier than what I read so earlier than that.
What are your predictions, and ones you know of, as to how this is going to play out? Please share that.
Other than above mentioned (and the links when I find them), I only have this one, in Dutch :https://toekomstnederland2040.nl/verwachtingen/klimaat-en-natuur/
So I'd thought first I'd think up and gather the things that will be markers of how the world is falling apart and mankind is on the way to extinction. Still hopefully not, but just going with the facts.
Of course share any you think of and find.
This list was just quickly thrown together, I'll make a more serious list later.
And also I had thoughts about food production falling apart. Different sorts of food will become too difficult to produce or expensive in terms of the space required from areas still usable. At some point it might be impossible to produce enough food to feed everyone, even if it was being distributed to all.
Lots of things that might happen, it's hard to guess now. But not in 2040 I expect.
As far as counting the number of people who have died as part of climate change or the ultimate extinction from that, how ever you look at it, I disagree with those who are already counting.
The people they are counting now died to due situations, usually of their own creation, and could have been prevented, or might have happened anyway.
People are going extinct when they cannot flee fast enough to inhabitable areas. The current starvation in the world is not due to a lack of food, but how food is distributed. And to me, one of the more ridiculous cases is counting people as dying from climate change because they refused to evacuate their homes for a fire that was either caused by or made worse by climate change. They could have fled and lived. That is not going extinct, that is needless and baseless suicide.
Not that I agree with any of these, especially some specific details. However for more information peruse these.

This is a cool graphic way to see how bad it is at the moment anywhere in the world.

(more to come)
At around the year 2100 we will have increased the earths average temperature by about 5 degrees Celsius, 9 degrees Fahrenheit.
If we stopped all greenhouse gas emissions completely, the average temperature will continue to increase for years, slowly reducing the increase until the temperature reaches it's new higher normal level. If the temperature begins to drop, which will take some time before that begins, it will be a very slow change. On earth scale time, that means probably thousands of years for a significant drop.
There are people who say climate change doesn't exist because it is a hoax, and throw in conspiracy theories to make it more fun. This is utter nonsense in my opinion. It is too obviously real. The united states of America have also stopped efforts to address the problem, and announced that climate change is a hoax. But very unclear. Is the hoax that it exists, or is the hoax that we can actually solve the problem? The latter I might almost believe, because the efforts are so minuscule compared to the situation.
Other nonsense I've heard :
I have not met anyone yet who talked about how upset they are about climate change or about anything they are doing about it.
I have had one person tell me the weather is too cold, so it can stand to be a degree or two (Celsius) warmer. That was some time ago.
Two people explained that they work hard and "earn the right" to do whatever. In one case it was about car pollution, another was very clear he earns the right to walk around inside in a t-shirt, when there's thick snow outside (thus really cold). Snow isn't really happening much here anymore, so he'll have had to change his statement by now.
The only big hoop I have at the moment is AI. Not that it will calculate technology to solve this, that is not possible I expect, but that it can figure how to convince all of mankind to immediately completely change and focus on survival of the planet and ourselves. Not expecting that, just hoping.
I keep searching but I have found no group (or person) that indicates it is working on solving the climate crisis. Probably because those who understand the situation consider it impossible.
I had seen an article about that a rich person, Bill Gates, published a book of "solutions" for climate change. I doubt highly it is even a bit helpful. The book is just to make money. The solutions I would expect just to be ideas for products that are a little bit less damaging to the environment particularly contributing less to climate change. And not only woud I wonder about the effectiveness, but also about side effects that might damage the environment in some other way.
The only real solution is getting everyone on earth to want to solve the problem, especially by not adding to it. But it is so much of our lives, and we don't want to give it up.
If we wanted to solve it, we would need to get overpopulation under control. Completely stop all activities contributing to the problem. Look for ways to reduce the damage. Specifically we need two "magical" machines. One removes heat from open air, and converts it to a form easily stored or disposed of, or something useful like oxygen, which we have been using up, although not a problem yet. The other one removes all greenhouse gases from open air and does basically the same thing. I don't think either is really possible.
